Just like the regular season, sixth-ranked Old Dominion dominated the Colonial Athletic Association women's awards presented Tuesday.
For the second consecutive year, ODU swept the top three categories. Ticha Penicheiro was the Player of the Year, Mery Andrade the Rookie of the Year and Wendy Larry the Coach of the Year.
Penicheiro, a junior point guard, led the league in assists with a 6.9 average and steals with 4.2 per game. She started every game for ODU, averaging the most minutes at 27.6, and recorded her first triple-double against Richmond on Feb. 13. That night she had 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists. She averaged 8.5 points per game.
Andrade, a sophomore who was named the MVP in the Louisville tournament after ODU beat 10th-ranked Colorado, is the team's second-leading scorer with 11.2 points per game and second in steals, averaging 2.7.
Larry has led the Lady Monarchs to a 24-2 mark and a 16-0 CAA record, the best in her nine years at ODU. The No. 6 ranking is the best ODU has achieved since its 1984-85 national championship season.
