MARILYN MONROE is in town!
It's the ``River of No Return'' coupled with ``Some Like It Hot.'' Is it believable? The New York Post once claimed that even Joe Dimaggio would be fooled.
Traveling with Marilyn are Eartha Kitt, Cher, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland, and Diana Ross. That is, in order, the earthy, trashy, soaring, tragic and thin. Even Bette Davis is expected to make a few irreverent remarks.
And there is no lip-synching involved. It's ``Voices,'' starring Jimmy James, a performer with an uncanny ability to emulate the styles of the vocalists with verve.
``Voices'' is at The White House Cafe at 249 W. York St. in downtown Norfolk tonight at 9 and midnight.
In this show, he promises just the voices, not the looks.
The Los Angeles Weekly commented, ``James is a walking, talking illusion of Marilyn, yet is careful to not fall into flamboyance. He delivers a lovable, sexy, goddess.''
The New York Post, in reviewing his performance at ``Don't Tell Mama,'' claimed that ``James' vocal mimicry is so astonishing, it's almost impossible to believe you are not listening to someone lip-synching - and surrounding it all with pointedly funny, satirical, insights.''
Tickets are $15, on sale at the door. For further information, call 533-9290. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
