REGENT DEAN KEYNOTER AT DEDICATION

Kay Coles James, dean of Regent University's Robertson School of Government, will be keynote speaker at the dedication of Tabernacle Christian Life Center, 1309 E. Washington St., Sunday at 4 p.m.

A Portsmouth native, James is a champion of conservatism. She gained national prominence for advocating personal responsibility and welfare reform in Virginia.

She served in the White House under President George Bush and as Virginia's secretary for health and human resources. James was named to the Virginia Board of Education for a four-year term. She is a spokeswoman for the National Right to Life Committee.

Sharing the podium with James will be Suffolk city officials, Del. Lionell Spruill Sr. and leadership of Tabernacle U.C.C. The Rev. Dr. Rollins Russell, U.C.C. Southern Conference minister, and the Rev. Walter Snowa, E.V.A. Conference minister, will participate.

A reception will follow, in the J.O. Lee Fellowship Hall.

The Rev. Carlton Upton Sr., Tabernacle pastor, said the center will be used for services to the needy, including food, clothing and emergency funding. Tabernacle plans to team with other community resources to offer additional services to its East Suffolk neighborhood. by CNB
