HENDERSON E. WAFF

Henderson Edward ``Ed'' Waff, 78, of 113 Pembroke Circle, died unexpectedly Wednesday March 6, 1996, in the Chowan Hospital.

A native of Chowan County, Mr. Waff was born Oct. 7, 1917, a son of the late John Edward and Hettie Layton Waff. Mr. Waff was retired from commercial fishing and marine construction. In earlier years, Mr. Waff was a partner in the J.E. Waff and Sons Fishery and later the Edenton Bay Fish Company. At present, Mr. Waff was president of Waff Brothers Inc. and an officer in the Colonial Development Corporation.

Surviving Mr. Waff is his wife, Ida Mae Riddick Waff, a native of Gates County; his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Waff Carroll and William W. Carroll of Raleigh, N.C.; four sisters, Hettie Wallace and Doris Bunch, both of Edenton, Kathleen Byrum of Tyner, and Juanita Spruill of Roper; three brothers, John Waff of Burgaw, N.C., Maurice Waff of Edenton, and Alvin Waff of Hampton; two granddaughters, Catharine Ann Carroll of Washington, N.C., and Stacy Lane Carroll of Greensboro, N.C.; also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Waff was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Bunch, and brother, Edsel Waff.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday in the Macedonia Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Young. Burial will follow in the Beaver Hill Cemetery. the family will receive friends at the Evans Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church, 1004 Macedonia Road, Edenton, N.C. 27932.
