DR. E. MILTON KELLAM

Dr. E. Milton Kellam, 77, husband of Joan Lansford Kellam died at Northampton Accomack Memorial Hospital on March 5, 1996. He was the son of the late Sydney S. Kellam and the late Bess Kellogg Kellam.

He was born in Belle Haven, Va., and after living in Cape Charles, Dr. Kellam moved back to Belle Haven and resided in the house where he was born.

He attended Hampden-Sydney College from which he graduated in 1939, and the Medical School of the University of Virginia from which he gradated in 1943.

After a brief internship, Dr. Kellam went on active duty with the Navy as a medical officer, providing care for those wounded in the Normandy Invasion. Reassigned to the Pacific, he participated in the Okinawa Invasion and the Occupation of Japan. He was a lieutenant senior grade when he was decommissioned.

In 1951, Dr. Kellam returned to the Eastern Shore after interning at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and completing his residency in New Britain, Conn. Between 1974 and 1987 he served as Chief of Surgery at NAM Hospital. In August of 1988 Dr. Kellam retired from his practice. Upon his retirement, the hospital's Board of Trustees recognized him for his ``exemplary dedication to duty . . . his steadfast service . . . characterized by energy, wisdom and diligence,'' and his ``good will towards all people with whom he has come into contact.''

Dr. Kellam is also survived by three children, Joanne K. Clodwick of Lowell, Fla., Karen L. Kellam of Richmond, Va. and E. M. Kellam, Jr. of Nassawadox, Va.

Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 1996 at 2 p.m. at Cape Charles Cemetery in Cape Charles, Va. The Rev. Donald Broad and the Rev. James Keezel will be officiating.
