James Lee ``Buddy'' Elliott, 78, of the 3200 block of Knox St., died March 5, 1996, at Portsmouth General Hospital.

Mr. Elliott, the widower of Olivia S. Elliott, was a retired rigger from Norfolk Naval Shipyard who had more than 40 years of service. He was a native of Norfolk County and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Elliott DeBerry of Springfield, Va.; a sister, Margaret Hargrave of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Patrice Elliott, Ryan DeBerry and Kevin DeBerry; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth, by the Rev. F.R. Williams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with full military honors. The viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today.
