PRUNING HURTS

I was appalled to read the comments of Chrysler Museum Interim Director Catherine Jordan concerning the recent lay-off of some very talented and dedicated staff members (Business, Feb. 22). In comparing this step with ``pruning back a bush'' which ``will flower again,'' she should have expanded her metaphor to include the fate of those branches pruned.

It is gratifying, at least, to know that Jordan ``was sad all weekend.'' With such a spokesperson, it is small wonder that the museum is experiencing difficulties. When the root is diseased, the bush may never flower again.
