SCHOOL CHIEF'S EX-BOSSES SAY HE'S UP TO CHALLENGE

As members of the Board of Education for the Union School District in Tulsa, Okla., we wish to congratulate the Virginia Beach school district in its recent selection of Dr. Tim Jenney as superintendent.

Union is one of the leading school districts in Oklahoma, in part due to the fine efforts of Dr. Jenney. Union has more than 11,500 students with over 83 percent going on to schools of higher education. Our students regularly are admitted to the top schools in the country.

When Dr. Jenney arrived at this district in 1990, the financial affairs were a concern, with state auditors questioning various large transactions that had not been authorized by the Board of Education. Dr. Jenney was instrumental in bringing accountability to our district's finances and, in the process, accreditation standards for all of our schools. Dr. Jenney was innovative and willing to look at new methods to improve the education of our students. He also was instrumental in improving the district's communications with the community, with the press and with the board. Congratulations for your choice.
