MILTON L. HILL

The Rev. Dr. Milton L. Hill, 74, of the 300 block of Woodstock St., died March 5, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk.

He was Pastor Emeritus of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where he pastored for 19 years. He was also a motor vehicle foreman for 37 years at the Naval Public Works Center. He was a a native of Surry County, Va. and a member and former deacon of First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth. He was past moderator of the Sharon Association Church Sunday School Union; Tidewater Metro Baptist Minister's Conference; Interdenominational Minister's Forum of Portsmouth and vicinity, and Sharon Missionary Baptist Association; life member of NAACP; World War II U.S. Army veteran; Interdenominational Minister's Conference and the North Carolina Minister's Association, Elizabeth City, N.C.; Virginia State Convention; and Tidewater Lodge No. 106 F & A.M.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys B. Hill; two daughters, Barbara Hill Lee of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Army Major Benita ``Kathy'' Hill of Fort Eustis, Va.; son, Milton Earl Hill of Mitchellville, Md.; adopted sister, Annie Ruth Jones of Surry; brother, Deacon John E. Hill Sr. of Surry; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; an uncle, Cornelius Hill; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral will be at noon Saturday in New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, 1000 County St. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Chesapeake, with military honors. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. A Christian wake service will be held today at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth, 1556 Centre Ave., Portsmouth. The body will be taken to New Mount Olivet Baptist Church at 9 a.m. Saturday.
