Churchland senior Nicole Council has verbally committed to a full basketball scholarship at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
``It was between them and East Carolina,'' Council said. ``I went up there to visit, and I just felt comfortable. I liked the people and I liked the team.''
Council, the Southeastern District Player of the Year, led the Truckers to the regular-season district championship and into the Eastern Region semifinals.
The 5-foot-7 point guard averaged 17.7 points, shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 30.9 percent on 3-pointers. Council also averaged 3.4 steals and 7.7 assists.
At UM-ES, Council will play the two-guard slot.
``They said I'd come in and play as soon as I got there,'' Council said. ``I'll mostly play at the two-guard, that's what I wanted to be.''
Council is academically qualified and plans to major in physical therapy. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
