Lisa Kensler (``Anti-environment Allen administration,'' letter, Feb. 25) accuses Governor Allen and Becky Dunlop of attempting to destroy Virginia's environmental protections.
Ms. Kensler is absolutely correct. The Allen administration is stupefying in its selfish indifference to Virginia's environmental well-being. The Allen administration is doing its best to remove every safeguard the citizens have voted to enact for the health of our land. As a personal appointee of the governor, Secretary of Natural Resources Becky Dunlop was placed in the best position to inflict the most damage.
Ms. Dunlop's ability to dismiss as a ``special interest'' any citizen who cares about drinkable water, or breathable air, only demonstrates the remarkable lack of conscience she brings to her post. She is responsible for vetting all references to DDT in publications on the bald eagle - knowing that this pesticide was the cause for the near-extinction of the bird. She is responsible for firing state employees who even appeared to disagree with her reactionary positions. Becky Dunlop is responsible for nothing which contributes in any positive way to the health and welfare of Virginia's citizens.
