Roy E. Owenby, 56, of the 4700 block of Fairway Ave., died March 7, 1996, in Norfolk.
Mr. Owenby, a retired petty officer first class personnelman from the U.S. Navy, was also a retired letter carrier from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a native of McCaysville, Ga., and a member of the Swindlers Golf Group and the Bow Creek Seniors Golf Group. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Owenby; two daughters, Mary E. ``Missy'' Tharp of Norfolk, Elizabeth S. Cornetta of Virginia Beach; a son, Thomas M. Owenby of Sugar Hill, Ga.; two brothers, Larry Owenby of Copperhills, Tenn., Billy Owenby; two granddaughters, Haven and Danielle; and two grandsons, Dustin and Lee.
The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, by Father James Parke. Entombment will be in Princess Anne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The family requests that flowers be omitted and suggest that memorial donations be made to Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73101, or to the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, Hampton Roads Chapter, 291 Independence Blvd., Virginia Beach, 23462. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.
