Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary wants everybody to limbo their winter blues away.
This year's 21st annual ball, which will raise money for the hospital's Cancer Treatment Center, will be called the Classique Carnival. It's scheduled to take place March 16 at the Holiday Inn-Chesapeake on Woodlake Drive.
The ball has been held for the past 20 years, helping earn money to purchase equipment for the hospital. It has become a Chesapeake tradition and one of the top social events of the year, attracting as many as 500 people.
Barbara Thrasher, ball public relations chairman, said this year's event will have a decidedly Caribbean flavor.
The popular jazz combo The Pat Curtis Jazz Trio will entertain patrons early during in evening at the ball's champagne reception.
Curtis, well-known throughout the Hampton Roads area, built up a loyal local following through his popular stints as house pianist for several years at the Omni Hotel at Norfolk's Waterside.
The reception will be followed by a sit-down dinner.
And for those wishing to work off all that gourmet food, area favorites, the R&B All Stars, will provide an evening's worth of rhythm and blues sounds, perfect for spirited dancing.
After dinner entertainment will be provided by Carolyn Myers, choral/voice teacher at Great Bridge High School and former member of the internationally famous Robert Shaw Chorale. She, along with guest performers Melanie Manning, Doug Lynch and Launa Shelton, will present a ``Classique Carnival Cabaret Show,'' which will be their version of entertainment one would find on a luxury Caribbean cruise liner.
The performers promise a spirited show full of fun songs and surprises, Thrasher said. MEMO: CLASSIQUE CARNIVAL
