John F. Smalls, 79, of the 800 block of Clubhouse Road, died Feb. 27, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mr. Smalls was born Aug. 31, 1916, in Savannah, Ga. He retired as a merchant seaman with over 40 years of service. He was also a member of the National Maritime Union and the Tidewater Jazz Society.
Survivors include four children, Jerome A. Smalls of New York, John R. Smalls of Chesapeake, Shawn C. Smalls and Allison M. Smalls, both of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Alma Millington and Gwendolyn Sparks, both of New York, and Shirley Murray of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Interment will take place in Quantico National Cemetery, Va., on Tuesday March 12, 1996. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
