EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

Priority Staffing Services has opened a new branch and headquarters in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. Richard Brinkley is president and chief executive officer of the company. He will be joined by Vice-President John Brinkley, who will lead the accounting and technology division.

ENGINEERING

Phillip R. Merritt was named training systems manager at the Tidewater division of S.T. Research Corp. in Chesapeake, a research and development firm based in Newington, Va. He recently retired as a branch head of computer training at the Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. He has 30 years of federal service.

BUILDING

Robert D. Zajack was named regional manager of the builder division for the Virginia Beach area of Nationwide Homes. He has over 20 years experience in real estate and home financing sales and management positions. He was most recently with Wainwright Real Estate in Virginia Beach.

HEALTH CARE

James D. Dawes has joined Sentara Health Systems as director of Sentara Physician Services. He comes to Sentara from BlueStem Clinic in Bartlesville, Okla., where he was administrator of operations.

LAW

John A. Tilhou was named a partner at the newly-established Virginia Beach office of Mays & Valentine. He is a member of the firm's Corporate, Tax and Securities practice group. He was formerly a partner with Pender & Coward in Virginia Beach.

Ann K. Sullivan, a partner with Crenshaw, Ware & Martin in Norfolk, was elected vice-chairperson of the civil litigation section of the Virginia Bar Association. She focuses on civil litigation and employment matters.

Earle C. Mobley was named a member at Ferrell, Backus, Sayer & Nicolo. He joined the firm in March 1993 as an associate. Before that, he was a commonwealth's attorney in Portsmouth. His areas of practice include criminal and traffic law, personal injury, contract law, real estate law and general litigation. The firm, which has offices in Chesapeake and Portsmouth, will now be known as Ferrell, Backus, Sayer, Nicolo & Mobley.

John D. Radd and Jeffrey F. Brooke were named members at Huff, Poole & Mahoney in Virginia Beach. Radd practices in the litigation department and previously served as a Navy judge advocate in the Navy. Brooke practices in personal injury law. He is a graduate of The College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law and the University of Virginia.

MANUFACTURING

Shin-ichiro Nagashima was named the new president of Opton Inc., a Newport News industrial glass fabrication company. He was former chairman and chief executive officer of Canon Virginia Inc. in Newport News. He recently retired from Canon and was named chairman emeritus in January. Also Masako Tatsuguchi was appointed vice-chairman of the company. She has been president of Opton since 1987.

ORGANIZATIONS

United Way of South Hampton Roads elected John A.B. Davies Jr. as chairman of the board and Denver F. Hicks as general campaign chairman for the 1996 campaign year. Davies is president of Virginia Beach Federal Savings Bank/Beach Fed Mortgage Corp. Hicks is a partner with Witt Mares & Co. New board members include Bruce Bradley of The Virginian-Pilot, Thomas A. Hyman Jr. of Virginia Power, Rick Knapp of Virginia International Terminals, Carolyn Abron-McCadden of Cox Communications, William J. Slayton III of First Union National Bank of Virginia, Conrad Hall of Trader Publishing Co. and Patrick O'Malley of Planters Co.

SERVICE

Suzan Kaufman was named director of sales and marketing for Creative Office Environments in Norfolk. Formerly with ADD Seating in Los Angeles, she formerly worked for Brayton Health Design and Steelcase. Creative Office Environments acquired the contract furniture division and Steelcase dealership in this area in August. MEMO: Career Track reports upper-level executive and management changes. Items
