MELVIN BURDEN SR.

Melvin ``Notball'' Burden Sr. of the 1700 block of Canton Ave., died March 8, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Mr. Burden was born in Kelford, N.C. He was a career tractor-trailer driver. He retired from D.D. Jones Trucking Co. in 1994 and was a member of the Campostella Heights Civic League. He was also a member of the Brother and Sister Compassion Prayer Band. He was a faithful deacon of the Mount Zion Baptist Church of Chesapeake for close to 25 years.

He was predeceased by two daughters and two grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Margaret A. Burden; two daughters, Melvina B. Haynes and Minnie Burden, both of Norfolk; three sons, Melvin Burden Jr., Marvin Burden and Richard Burden, all of Norfolk; a brother, Joe John Jenkins of Norfolk; 22 grandchildren; and 18 grandchildren.

A funeral will be held Thursday with the Rev. Rayphield Clay officiating in Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. Friends may join the family at the residence.
