A 71-year-old man was struck and killed by a train over the weekend, police said Monday.
Newuit Thomas of the 100 block of S. Wellons St. was hit by a westbound Norfolk Southern train about 8:40 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of Clarys Drive, said Suffolk police spokesman Mike Simpkins.
Thomas was apparently trying to cross at a noncrossing area in the West Jericho section, Simpkins said. He died at the scene.
