Two workers were burned Monday at Seaward Marine Services Inc. when a hydraulic line broke and a fire started.
Jack Goldhorn, a spokesman for the Department of Fire and Paramedical Services, said the men had been repairing equipment at Seaward in the 5400 block of Beamon Road.
The hose on which they were working fell into an electrical panel, broke and caused a short-circuit, Goldhorn said. The sparks ignited flammable hydraulic fluid.
``Liquid flame'' then shot out and coated both men, Goldhorn said.
John Tumber, 26, of Norfolk suffered minor burns of his face and first- and second-degree burns of n his arm.
The other worker, a 52-year-old man from Norfolk, suffered first- and second-degree burns of his face, arms, chest and back. He was not immediately identified.
Both were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital's burn-trauma unit.
Goldhorn said the fire was quickly extinguished and there was no structural damage.
