Lorena M. Coffee Torbert, of the 3700 block of Sentara Way, died March 11, 1996, at a Virginia Beach hospital.

She was the widow of John Y. Coffee Sr. and a native of Ayden, N.C. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and a former member of Ocean Park Women's Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth C. and her husband, Donald Downs, of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, John A. Downs and Ashley W. Downs, both of Virginia Beach, Sally Bryan of Huntsville, Ala., Ann McCary of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Dr. John Y. Coffee Jr.; two sisters, Ann Nelson and Beulah Hood; and a brother, R. Floyd Moore.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bayside Baptist Church, 1920 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Donald G. Wilson. A graveside service will be held in Oconee Hill Cemetery, Athens, Ga., at 11 a.m. Friday. The family will be at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Hampton Roads Chapter (NU)20, Koger Center Suite 233, Norfolk, Va. 23502. The body will be sent to Bridges Funeral Home, Athens, for services and burial.
