ERNEST F. COOPER SR.

Ernest Fred Cooper Sr., 81, of the 2700 block of Rodgers St., died March 12, 1996, in Richmond, Va.

Mr. Cooper, a retired quarterman, worked for 33 years in Jointer Shop (NU)07 of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Portsmouth. He was a native of Norfolk and the widower of Katherine T. Cooper. He was a member of South Masonic Lodge (NU)339, Norfolk Consistory of Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Temple of Shrine, Hillbillie Unit of Khedive Temple, and Chesapeake Shrine Club.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon L. Byrum and her husband, John S. Byrum II of Dillwyn, Va., Judith C. Daniel and her husband, Fred H. Daniel Jr. of Richmond; a son, Ernest F. Cooper Jr. and his wife, Barbara O. Cooper of Virginia Beach; a sister, Dollie Moore of Norfolk; two brothers, Daniel Cooper Jr. of Orange Park, Fla., and Jack L. Cooper of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, Katherine Krause of Charlottesville, Va., John S. Byrum III and Linda Shepherd, both of Atlanta, and Cinda Cooper Ayers of Virginia Beach.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. Paul D. Moore at Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, Chesapeake. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
