DENNIE L. CHAMBLISS

Dennie Lee Chambliss, 67, of the 300 block of Fulcher St., died March 12, 1996, at the VA hospital in Hampton.

Mr. Chambliss, a native of Nansemond County, was the son of the late Bennie Chambliss and Irene Knight Chambliss. He was the widower of Dorothy R. Chambliss. He was employed at the Norfolk Naval Base and was a member of Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ, Suffolk. He was a member of the usher board and junior trustee. He was a past master of Sharon Masonic Lodge (NU)231 P.H.A., and the treasurer.

Survivors include two daughters, Dianne Downing of Hampton, Edwina C. Morrison of Washington, D.C.; a son-in-law, Joseph H. Downing III of Hampton; three sons, Dennie Lee Chambliss Jr. of Huber Heights, Ohio, Darryl L. Chambliss of Washington, D.C., Emerson F. Chambliss of Huber Heights; a sister, Nellie Johnson Keys of Newport News; a daughter-in-law, Patricia L. Chambliss of Huber Heights; an aunt, Mamie W. Wright of Suffolk; an uncle, Karo Watford of Portsmouth; sister-in-law, Lurena Rose of Detroit, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Tabernacle Christian United Church of Christ by the Rev. Carlton R. Upton. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge.
