I am collecting command patches from units I've served on. Can you tell me how I can obtain a command patch or ball cap of the following decommissioned ships: The Robert L. Wilson (DD 847) and the Hermitage (LSD-34)?

There are a number of commercial sources to get ball caps. Here are some, which may have insignias as well: C. Lloyd Johnson Co., 8031 Hampton Boulevard, Norfolk, Va. 23505; Eagle Crest, P.O. Box 6115, Jacksonville, Fla. 32236; the Hampton Company, P.O. Box 1307, Tustin, Calif., 92681; New Era Cap Company, 8061 Erie Road, Derby, N.Y. 14147; and the Ship's Hatch, 10376 Main St., Fairfax, Va. 22030. For Navy Exchange patrons, some patches and ball caps can be purchased through them as well.

Can dependents of retired Navy personnel still be seen at the Tricare Clinic after they turn 65?

If the dependent is under 65 and Champus-eligible, he or she may join Tricare Prime provided the enrollment fee was met. The fee for an individual is $230 and the fee for a family is $460. However, if the person decides not to join Tricare Prime, he or she can still access the direct care military system on a space-available basis. You can do that by calling the Tricare service center in Portsmouth at 677-6000.

Patients who are Medicare-eligible over age 65 may request an appointment in the direct care military system on a space-available basis. They can also request through the service center physicians who accept Medicare assignment under Tricare Extra.

Hot Line note: I deal with many questions concerning the Survivor Benefit Plan. I answered a question a couple of weeks ago about computing SBP offset. The Retired Activities Office with the Navy Family Service Center in Norfolk has a computer program that can calculate SBP offset and office members will be happy to help any local retirees who have questions. Call the Retired Activities Office at 444-2102 for an appointment or assistance. by CNB
