ALBERT B. SPENCER

Albert B. Spencer, 78, of the 1000 block of Bay St., died March 11, 1996, in Portsmouth General Hospital.

He was a retired supply foreman for the Fifth Naval District at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital. He had retired after 40 years of service. He was a native of Hazelhurst, Miss., and was a former member of Community Presbyterian Church, Portsmouth. He was also a member of Felix Lodge (NU)3, Order of Masons, Washington, D.C., former president and former secretary of the Portsmouth Branch of the NAACP, and numerous other civic organizations. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Clara W. Spencer; three daughters, Carol A. Askew of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Gloria L. Underwood of Richmond, Va., and Charisse M. Spencer of Portsmouth; son, Albert B. Spencer Jr. of Fort Washington, Md.; sister, Bessie Spencer of Hazelhurst, Miss.; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday by Elder Charles H. Bowens Jr. in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, with military honors. A viewing at the funeral home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Portsmouth Renal Center Patient Welfare Fund, 311 Goode Way, Portsmouth, 23704.
