The federal government has extended disaster aid to 14 more counties, bringing to 33 the number of counties that can receive assistance for damage following last month's ice storms.
Gov. James B. Hunt Jr. asked President Clinton for help with the costs of local governments for snow and ice removal and bridge and utility repairs. The counties will be able to apply for up to 75 percent of those expenses.
The additional counties announced Tuesday are Caswell, Davie, Gates, Haywood, Hertford, Madison, Montgomery, Northampton, Randolph, Rockingham, Rutherford, Surry, Warren and Watauga. by CNB
