75 FESTEVENTS CONCERTS ARE SCHEDULED IN NORFOLK

A return visit from the Neville Brothers, a combined jazz and blues festival, and a new reggae jam are among the more than 75 concerts Festevents has scheduled for the summer and fall season.

The entertainment begins today with the first installment special event, the Greening of Ghent, in honor of St. Patrick's Day on Sunday.

Festevents is still adjusting the Friday-night River Rocks concert lineup, but organizers said some nationally known acts could be included. Festevents executive director Karen Scherberger says her organization may host the alternative rock band Collective Soul and country singer Mary Chapin Carpenter for the free, after-work concerts.

Already booked for the combined jazz and blues festival are John Hammond, Bradford Hayes, Stanley Jordan, Luthor Allison, The Radiators and The Preservation Hall Jazz Band. That festival begins Aug. 23.

Windham Hill recording artist Michael Hedges is scheduled to entertain at Art Exposure, formerly the Ghent Art Show, which begins May 10.

The Neville Brothers will be the featured artists at the Bayou Boogaloo and Cajun Food Festival, June 21 through 23.

In addition to the concerts, the Festevents schedule includes 150 days of special events, five parades and five fireworks shows. by CNB
