Virginia D. Whitson, 88, passed away March 12, 1996, at Indian River Estates Medical Center after an extended illness.
Miss Whitson was born June 18, 1907, in Portsmouth and had been a resident of Vero Beach for the past 10 years, coming from Chester, Va. Miss Whitson was a registered nurse, and was employed with the Department of Health, state of Virginia, as a consultant nurse specializing in pediatric cardiology until she retired in June 1972. She received her master's degree in Public Health at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, N.C. She was a member of Christ United Methodist by the Sea. Survivors include one sister, Martha Louise Oliver of Vero Beach.
Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by Dr. George W. Jones and the Rev. James D. Thomas. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
