James Walter Lankford Sr., 81, of the 300 block of Chautauqua Ave., died March 14, 1996, in his residence.
He was a native of Stokes County, N.C. and was a retired truck driver of Oboyle Tank Lines, South Norfolk. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He survived by his wife, Margaret E. Lankford; a daughter, Virginia Boedker of North Carolina; three sons, Jim W. Lankford Jr. of Portsmouth, Larry A. Lankford of Norfolk, Robert P. Lankford of Newport News; sister, Wilma Carnell Harris of Ridgeway, Va.; brother, Willie F. Lankford of Ridgeway; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. G.W. Harley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
