David Baker, 74, of the 200 block of Ashburn Road, died March 16, 1996 in his residence.
He was a native of Winston-Salem, N.C. and was a member of West End United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and the Portsmouth Sheriff Department.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Baker; a son, W. David Baker of Virginia Beach; a sister, Mary Ann Ferguson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a brother, Richard Baker of Las Vegas, Nev.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at West End United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Hauser and the Rev. Elisha E. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the building fund of West End United Methodist Church, 1800 Rodman Ave., Portsmouth VA 12707 or to Maryview Wellspring Hospice. The family will be at the residence. Sturtevant Funeral Home, PortsmouthBlvd. Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
