Joe Gay Boone Jr., 72, of the 1900 block of E. Ocean View Ave., died March 16, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mr. Boone was born in Franklin and was a Baptist. He was the widower of Helen Pearce Boone and retired as a leading man from N.A.R.F. after 38 years. He was a member of VFW Post 3160, Norfolk; Ocean View Social & Democratic Club; and American Legion. He was a Navy veteran of World War II; a graduate of Portlock High School and a lifelong sports enthusiast and semi-pro baseball player.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie K. Reardon of Dothan, Ala.; three sons, Joe Gay Boone III, Ronald W. Boone Sr. and Roger V. Boone, all of Norfolk; a sister, Lois B. Carey of Chesapeake; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert V. Boone.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
