Charges against 24-year-old Eric T. Johnson were upgraded to murder Monday in connection with the death of 7-month-old Deangelo Dennard, police said.
The baby boy died Sunday just after noon in the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters after suffering several skull fractures, police said.
Police spokesman Larry Hill said Johnson was taking care of Deangelo Friday morning when he grabbed the boy and shook him several times.
Later in the day, Johnson realized something was wrong with the child and called the child's mother, then paramedics, who took the baby to DePaul Medical Center. He was later transferred to the children's hospital.
Johnson, of the 7700 block of Enfield Ave., was arrested Friday and charged with felony child neglect.
