ARMED AND FEELING SAFER

Regarding ``Good people also kill'' (letter, March 8): What does a concealed-weapon permit have to do with a domestic shooting in one's bedroom or home? Nothing. A shooting can happen to anyone, anywhere, whether it is domestic or a drive-by.

The purpose of a concealed weapon has to do with a person feeling safe outside of his home. This applies to going out in public, such as shopping malls or restaurants, or being in an automobile.

I am an ex-police officer and recently received my concealed-weapon permit. My family feels safer and protected out in public, and so do I. With the rise in violence to innocent people, I feel completely justified in carrying a concealed firearm.

With proper training in firearms and knowledge of weapons, along with a clean record, one should be able to carry a concealed firearm without repercussions from any group or person. I am grateful to the 1995 state legislation allowing us to carry a concealed weapon.
