James Major Flowers Jr., 71, of the 2300 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Apt. 11C, died March 17, 1996, at his residence.
Mr. Flowers, a retired street maintenance supervisor, worked for the city of Norfolk for 25 years. He was a native of Norfolk and attended Norfolk Public Schools and Norfolk State University. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard and a World War II veteran. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Bute Street, where he was involved in the choir.
Survivors include a daughter, Loretta Robinson of Virginia Beach; three sons, Ernest Douglas of New London, Conn., Maj. Michael Flowers of the U.S. Marine Corps, James Flowers III of Norfolk; a sister, Henrietta Dumas of Dover, Del.; a brother, John Flowers of Virginia Beach; five grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at noon Friday at First Baptist Church, Bute Street, by the Rev. Robert Murray. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Friends may join the family at the residence. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Graves Funeral Home is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
