CHARLES E. FISCHER

Charles E. Fischer, age 75, of McDowell County died March 18, 1996. He was born on Dec. 18, 1920 in Norfolk. Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth Gregory and William Edward Fischer.

Mr. Fischer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a gunners mate first class. Mr. Fischer was also retired as a supervisor from the city of Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife Zennie Queen Owenby Fischer, of the home; stepsons, Samuel L. Owenby of Nebo, N.C., Dennis B. Owenby of Greensboro, N.C. and Wayne Owenby of Marion, N.C.; brother, George L. Fischer of Virginia Beach; sister, Marybelle Hopkins of Norfolk; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 21 at 1 p.m. in McDowell Memorial Park with Rev. George Hutchins officiating. Vistation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, 124 W. Fort St., Marion , N.C. 28752.
