LAWYER GIVES UP LICENSE

Barry L. Jenkins, an attorney who was suspended last year by the Virginia State Bar, has voluntarily surrendered his law license with disciplinary charges pending.

In November, the bar suspended Jenkins for five years in response to 11 complaints of misconduct from 1993 to 1995. He voluntarily agreed to the suspension, effective Jan. 11.

At the time, Jenkins said he had been busy outside the office pursuing other business matters and entrusted some of his law business to other people, and it was not done properly.

Since then, Jenkins has been sued for legal malpractice by three former clients, including one for allegedly mishandling a $6 million sexual harassment lawsuit against the Christian Broadcasting Network.

On Tuesday, the State Bar announced that Jenkins had voluntarily surrendered his law license March 14. The bar said charges were pending against Jenkins, but did not say if these were new charges or stemmed from the previous cases. by CNB
