Benjamin R. Tyler, 82, of the 1200 block of Centre Ave., died March 18, 1996.
Mr. Tyler, a retired pipe fitter, worked for Norfolk Naval Base for 43 years. He was a native of Severn, N.C., and the widower of Eva Stephens Tyler. He was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Newsome, Va.
Survivors include two daughters, Geneva Tyler of Hartford, Conn., and Ruth Jones of Portsmouth; a son, Randolph Tyler of Chesapeake; two sisters, Essie Daughtrey and Nola Matthews, both of Carrsville, Va.; a brother, Ernest Tyler of Suffolk; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Zion Bethel United Church of Christ, Portsmouth, by the Rev. D.A. Peace. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Friday. The family will be at 610 Jefferson St., Portsmouth, and will assemble there for the funeral.
