FEDERAL INCOME TAX WAIVED FOR TROOPS ON BOSNIA MISSION

President Clinton signed a bill Wednesday providing $83 million in tax relief to U.S. troops in Bosnia.

The legislation extends to peacekeeping troops in the former Yugoslavia the same tax benefits given to military members during wartime.

The legislation excludes from federal income tax all earnings by enlisted soldiers and warrant officers for any month they are in Bosnia, Croatia or Macedonia as part of NATO and U.N. peacekeeping missions.

About 18,400 U.S. military members are in Bosnia, 2,000 in neighboring Croatia and 500 in Macedonia. by CNB
