High westerly winds caused minor flooding on Roanoke and Hatteras Islands Tuesday night, but state and local officials said no roads were closed as a result of the rising waters.
In Manteo's waterfront area, several inches of water formed on streets, and forced some residents to move their cars to higher ground. However, Town Manager Kermit Skinner said there were no reports of property damage, and the water quickly receded.
Meanwhile, on Hatteras Island, two to four inches of water from Pamlico Sound formed on N.C. Route 12 near Salvo and in the Pea Island area. However, the road remained open.
And in Colington, three to four inches of water formed in the westbound lane of Colington Road. But by 1 a.m., the water had subsided. by CNB
