BBQ AT FOP: Bob's BBQ restaurant has opened on the first floor of the Fraternal Order of Police building at 417 County St.

The restaurant is owned and operated by Bob and Marilyn Bagnell, who formerly ran Carolina BBQ on Turnpike Road.

At their new location, the Bagnells are serving breakfast and lunch. They are open 6 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays.

PARTNERSHIP GROWS: Three regional businessmen recently were elected to the board of the Portsmouth Partnership.

G. Robert Aston of Commerce Bank, W. Carroll Creecy of Sales System Ltd. and W. Ashton Lewis Jr. of Lewis Chevrolet Corp. will join the board of the non-profit organization, which supports economic development efforts in the city.

Michael J. Blachman, a Portsmouth attorney with Bangel Bangel and Bangel, moved up to the president's chair after serving as vice president under the late Vann Lefcoe, who died recently.

Other officers are John C. Russ, an attorney with Moody, Strople and Kloeppel, vice president; David R. Tynch, an attorney with Cooper, Spong and Davis, treasurer; and Diane Pomeroy Griffin, an attorney, secretary.

The Partnership board meets the second Monday of each month.

GSH MANAGER: Minnie Mathias has returned to work for GHS Real Estate Corp. as managing broker of the Churchland office, a job she held for 10 years until 1989.

Mathias left GHS and with her husband started Preferred Properties Real Estate Management.

A Portsmouth native, Mathias has a degree in education from Radford University and taught six years in the public schools.

FINANCIAL SEMINAR: A financial and estate management seminar sponsored by Security Consultants Financial will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Emmaus Foursquare Gospel Church, 4229 Portsmouth Blvd.

R. Thomas Irwin, an attorney, and Lawton Baker, a certified public accountant, will speak.
