William Clarence Ross Jr.

NORFOLK - William Clarence Ross Jr., 77, formerly of the 2900 block of Dunkirk Ave., died March 19, 1996, in a Virginia Beach hospital.

He was a retired housing manager for the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority. He was a native of Knoxville, Tenn., and a member of Jeruselam Baptist Church. Mr. Ross was known for his talent in music and was one of the area's noted organists. He had been the organist for Jeruselam Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Lamberts Point, and the Voices of Norfolk. Mr. Ross was also well known on the dinner circuit and played in some of Tidewater's finer restaurants and hotel lounges. For over 15 years, he was the main attraction at the Breezy Point Officers Club.

He is survived by his wife, Martha B. Ross; three daughters, Gwendolyn R. Howell, Sylvia R. Campbell and Annie Ross-Darden; stepdaughter, Michele Reynolds; two sons, William C. Ross III and Thomas F. Ross; adopted brother, Ernest A. Riddick; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. Thomas Venable in Jerusalem Baptist Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be today from 2 to 8 p.m. The family will be at the funeral home today from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and at other times at 354 Dexter St., Chesapeake. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
