LEON E. LAWSON III

Leon Edward ``Foots'' Lawson III of the 1500 block of Ocean Garden Street died March 20, 1996.

He was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation. He was a native of Raleigh, N.C., and a member of Saint Mark A.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach, where he was involved in the Mens Chorus and Mens Fellowship. He was also a member of E-8 Social and Saving Club.

He is survived by his wife, Arthur Mae Lawson; three daughters, Hilda Beryl Thomas of Chesapeake, Fonda M. Waddell of Norfolk and Aprileona Lawson of New Carrllton Md.; three sons, Leon E. Lawson IV of Mechanicsville, Md., James L. Lawson of Mitchellville, Md., and Finis A. Lawson of Clarksburg, W.Va.; sister, Brunhilda Lofton of Raleigh, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday by the Rev. Henry Jefferson in Saint Mark A.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. There will be a wake today from 7 to 8 p.m. The remains will be in church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Community Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel, is in charge.
