The Virginia Assistive Technology System of Southeastern Virginia will focus on transportation and related issues for people with disabilities during its fifth annual Public Strategy Forum today at Old Dominion University.
The panel discussion, ``All Aboard for the Transportation Forum,'' will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the River Rooms of Webb University Center. The panel will address concerns raised at last year's open forum, which called for improved transportation in southeastern Virginia.
Panelists include state Sen. Yvonne B. Miller, D-Norfolk; Louisa M. Strayhorn, Virginia Beach City Council member and commissioner of the Tidewater Transportation District Commission; Paul Melvin, director of participant services for Endependence Center Inc.; Randy Nimmo, director of paratransit for Tidewater Regional Transit; George Olson, director of transportation for SEVAMP; and Michael Townes, executive director of the Peninsula Transportation District Commission.
Each year, VATS sponsors a public strategy forum to give people with disabilities, assistive-technology service providers, and educators an opportunity to express concerns specific to the region. Those concerns are compiled and submitted to VATS' Richmond office, where they are presented to state legislators.
