James P. McDonald III

PORTSMOUTH - James P. ``Sonny'' McDonald, 48, of the 2400 block of Walnut St., died March 17, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.

He attended Chesapeake Public Schools and was a graduate of Norfolk State University. He worked as a Longshoreman for over 15 years. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was predeceased by his father, James P. McDonald Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Laura McDonald of Portsmouth; his mother, Irene S. McDonald of Chesapeake; two sisters, Janice Harper and Gail Morals both of Chesapeake; two brothers, Maurice McDonald of Washington, D.C., and Kenneth McDonald of Jarrett, Va.; two uncles, William Randolph Smith of Chesapeake and Marvin Smith of Portsmouth; one aunt, Sylvia Gaither of Chesapeake; two nieces and nephews; two brothers-in-law, two aunts-in-law and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be held at Corprew Funeral Chapel, Portsmouth today at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
