It's time once again to pick the fairest in Chesapeake, the young woman who will represent the city at the annual Miss Virginia Pageant, which takes place in Roanoke this summer.
The 1996 Miss Chesapeake Pageant, ``Living In America,'' will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Oscar F. Smith High School auditorium.
This year's pageant features 10 young women from Chesapeake who will be judged on evening gown, swimsuit/fitness, interview and talent competitions.
The winner will receive a prize package worth more than $1,000.
Beth Howell, last year's Miss Chesapeake, will provide special entertainment and crown her successor. In addition, Amber Medlin, Miss Virginia 1995, will make a guest appearance and perform a selection on the piano.
Hosts for this year's pageant will be Patrice White Taylor, Miss Chesapeake 1982, and Jay Francis, on-air personality for Eagle 97 radio. The Miss Chesapeake Dancers under the direction of choreographer Sue Boyette will perform. The event is being produced by C. Jeff Bunn.
Tickets for the pageant are $8 and will be available at the door.
The contestants are as follows:
Angie Beale, the daughter of Barbara and John Beale, will sing ``Amazing Grace.''
Nita Booth, the daughter of Elaine and Roland McDaniel, will sing ``There's A Winner in You.''
Alissa Ferguson, the daughter of Dianne and Gene Ferguson, will dance a ballet routine to ``Amigos Para Siempre.''
Natasha Halsey, the daughter of Felicia and Reginald Halsey, will sing ``Miracle.''
Jennifer Hillman, the daughter of Patricia and Charles Hillman, will perform a tap dance to ``Shine on My Shoes.''
Suzanne Humphrey, the daughter of Judy and W.A. Dunaway, will perform a gymnastics dance to a selection from ``Phantom of the Opera.''
Lori Jones, the daughter of Kathy and Larry Jones, will sing ``Colors of the Wind.''
Kerry Shehan, the daughter of Judy and Tom Shehan, will perform a tap dance to ``Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.''
Kathy Thomas, the daughter of Evelyn and Robert Thomas, will play ``Pathetique'' on the piano.
Carly Van Orman, the daughter of Adele Van Orman and Barry Van Orman, will perform a musical theater selection, ``Much More,'' from the musical ``The Fantasticks.'' ILLUSTRATION: Photos
