OPEN DOOR NIGHT: The Superintendent's Open Door Night will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the School Board Office, 524 N. Main St.

These night office hours are offered to encourage students, parents, employees and citizens to meet with the superintendent without an appointment. Participants are seen in the order in which they sign in.

DANCE PROGRAM: First-graders at Southwestern Elementary School will perform song and dance numbers built around the theme ``Free to Be Me - First-Grade Style'' at the 7:30 p.m. PTA meeting on April 2.

The first song is ``Dancing on the Rooftop'' and the finale is ``Teach Me Well.''

KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION: Kindergarten registration for students starting school in September 1996 will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 8 at the 10 elementary schools.

Parents should bring the following information about their children: Certified copy of birth certificate or an affidavit to verify the child's age and a physical and immunization record, if available.

Virginia school law states that children may enter school if they are 5 years old on or before Sept. 30 and should be enrolled unless the parents notify the school that they will wait a year.

Children who are 6 years old by Sept. 30 must be enrolled in school.

FRANKLIN

SCHOOL CENSUS: The Franklin City Public School Division will conduct a school census as required by the Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-281 through 22.1-286. These sections of the law require all school divisions to collect information on all residents who are at least 5 years old, but have not reached age 20 on or before Dec. 31.

Census intake will begin April 8 and continue through June 10. Enumerators will have identification badges signed by Superintendent Dr. A.R. Butler IV, to verify that they are collecting data for school census.

Statistics from the census will be used by the state to determine the distribution of the one percent state sales tax money. The more sales tax dollars received by the city, the fewer local tax dollars will be needed to fund local services. Therefore, it is important to all residents that an accurate census be made so that the city receives its fair share of these funds.
