Olive Johnson Gourley, 80, of 1401 N. High Street, formerly of Norfolk, died March 23, 1996, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Carrsville and was the daughter of the late Goode and Cora Spivey Johnson. Mrs. Gourley was a graduate of Carrsville High School and James Madison College. She had been a home economics teacher at Carrsville High School and had retired as a home management supervisor for Accomac and Northampton Counties. She was a 20-year volunteer at Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and was a charter member of the Elizabeth River Woman's Club. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church and a former member of Park Place Baptist Church, Norfolk, where she was active in the W.M.U.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Edwin M. Gourley; a sister, Ida Virginia Johnson Dixon; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Beaver Dam Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Richard Peerey. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Wright Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. today, and other times at the home of Drew and Carole Dixon, 6701 Old Myrtle Road, Carrsville.
