SHOOTERS AIM TO RAISE MONEY FOR MAKE-A-WISH FOUNDATION

They have two targets. One is clay, the other is money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Shooters, aiming at clay targets, will be at Sussex Shooting Sports next Sunday, firing away for prizes and the chance to make money for the organization that grants special wishes for children with life-threatening or terminal conditions.

Individuals have paid $125 for the privilege of helping those youngsters. Four-man teams have paid $500. Team members also can compete as individuals. There are separate divisions for women, youths 12 and older, and senior citizens. There will be winners in all categories.

The winning corporate participants will receive a silver cup engraved with the company name, which they will keep until next year's event. Last year's winning team was Westinghouse.

At this point no more entries can be accepted, but the public is invited to watch the event, participate in drawings for special prizes and join the shooters for lunch at noon, and the 3:30 p.m. awards ceremony and party. A $10 donation will be requested.

Last year, the event raised $6,300 for Make-A-Wish. This year, the goal is $10,000 to sponsor two or three children. About 130 shooters will participate in the competition.

``The Foundation was very impressed with the organization and size of our event,'' said William J. Beigle III, shoot chairman.

Two boys, helped recently by Make-A-Wish, will be special guests as will Michael Bright of Chesapeake, who is suffering from a brain tumor.

His wish will be granted Tuesday - a trip to Milan to watch a soccer match.

Golf carts will transport the boys around the site.

``They'll be put to work,'' Beigle said, ``doing such things as handing out snacks.

``About $10,000 in prizes will be given away,'' he said, referring to shotguns plus the shells, clays and hunting trips at Sussex Shooting Sports.''

The individual with the highest score will win a two-night stay at the Stouffer Orlando Resort, a $200 airline ticket and a shooting package at BlackJack's Sporting Clays in Orlando.

Many door prizes will be awarded during the event.

``There'll be tons of prizes,'' said chairperson, Jennifer Beigle. ``We'll have great prizes, great food, and it's for a great cause.'' MEMO: AT A GLANCE
