Rafael Pernas, 59, of the 3800 block of Bent Branch Drive, died March 24, 1996, in Norfolk.
Mr. Pernas, a retired self-employed automobile mechanic, was a native of Sancti Spiritus, Cuba.
Survivors include his wife, Maria R. Pernas; four daughters, Senia Pernas, Iser Pernas, and Sarahi Pernas, all of Cuba, Sandra Pernas of Virginia Beach; two sons, Lucas Pernas and Reyner Pernas, both of Virginia Beach; four sisters and a brother, all of Cuba; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral and burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. The family requests that flowers be omitted and suggests that memorial donations in memory of Mr. Pernas be made to the American Cancer Society.
