Joseph Alton Stallings, 84, of Route 1 Box 971, died Saturday, March 23, 1996, in Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.
A native of Perquimans County, he was the son of the late Cora Hunter Stallings and Pallie Stallings. He was a farmer and retired as a supervisor with George C. Moore Co. Stallings was a member of Evangelical Methodist Church of Elizabeth City and Woodmen of the World for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Perry Stallings; a daughter and son-in-law, Mae S. and John Carr of Plymouth; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alton Ray and Ann Stallings of Windsor, Jimmy E. and Pam Stallings of Edenton; a son-in-law, Haywood Boyce of Winfall; three sisters, Mary Bacon and Virginia Garland, both of Red Oak, Va., Nellie Lee Jones of Edenton; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Doris Jean S. Boyce.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Swindell Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Art Wilt, Gene Boyce and Jeff Ozanne. Burial will follow in Cedar Wood Cemetery.
