ROBERT L. PHELPS

Robert Lee Phelps, 56, died Friday, March 22, 1996, in Williamsburg Community Hospital.

A native of Tidewater, he had been a Williamsburg resident for 16 years. He was a self-employed professional photographer. He retired from Fort Eustis in 1989 after 30 years of service and had served in the Virginia National Guard at NASA Langley and in the U.S. Army.

He attended Bruton Parish Church, was president of the James-York Exchange Club, member of Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), Professional Photographers of America, Williamsburg/Jamestown Pilots Association and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association.

He is survived by his wife, Pamela Williams Phelps; one daughter, Carole Sutton of Hampton; four sons, John Phelps of Norfolk, Tracy Phelps of Hampton, Kevin and Chris Phelps, both of Williamsburg; his mother-in-law, Charlene Williams of Williamsburg; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tracy and Dorothy Phelps.

The family will receive friends in Williamsburg Funeral Home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A service of remembrance will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday by the Rev. Richard May in Bruton Parish Church. Burial will follow in Williamsburg Memorial Park.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to The Robert Phelps Memorial Fund, c/o James-York Exchange Club, P.O. Box 134, Williamsburg, Va. 23187.
