James Monroe Shannon, 76, of the 300 block of Effingham St., died March 25, 1996, in Portsmouth.
Mr. Shannon, a native of Portsmouth, was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an estimator. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Terry Shannon; two daughters, Terry S. Evans of New London, Conn., Jamie Lee Shannon of Portsmouth; two sons, Stephen Reed Shannon and Johnathan Keith Shannon, both of Portsmouth; a granddaughter, Connie Lee Silver of Olney, Md.; and a stepsister, Dorothy M. Frazier of Coden, Ala.
A graveside funeral, with military honors, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rt. Rev. C. Charles Vache and the Rev. Dr. Geoffrey M. Hahneman. The family will receive friends at Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today and at other times at 3706 Greenway Ct. East.
